  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, 2 teaspoons basil, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. While the sauce simmers, cook lasagna noodles according to package directions; drain and rinse with cold water.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 3/4 teaspoon salt.
  5. To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture.
